# How your data and course materials are protected

> Find information about ownership, AI training, content access and institutional agreements.

Your institution’s agreement with StudyStash sets out how its data is handled, including retention. The [Trust centre](https://trust.studystash.com) contains security and data-protection documentation for institutional review.

## Ownership and AI training

Uploading course materials does not transfer their ownership to StudyStash. Uploaded content and student or instructor activity are not used to train AI models. Read the [AI training policy](https://help.studystash.com/privacy/ai-training.md) for details.

## Course content and sharing

Course materials remain subject to the rights and permissions attached to them. Students cannot directly download instructors’ materials from StudyStash. For personal work and account closure, see [access and export requests](https://help.studystash.com/students/institution-access-ends.md).

Read the [copyright guidance](https://help.studystash.com/privacy/copyright.md) before uploading or sharing content. Institutions can discuss upload restrictions and [custom consent wording](https://help.studystash.com/administrators/custom-consent-form.md) with the team. [Third-party content](https://help.studystash.com/educators/third-party-content.md) also depends on the provider’s licence.

## Institutional review

Use the [Trust centre](https://trust.studystash.com) to review the DPIA, data-processing terms and security documentation. For a pilot, follow the [documentation checklist](https://help.studystash.com/administrators/pilot-documentation.md).

Contact [support@studystash.com](mailto:support@studystash.com) for questions about your institution’s agreement, retention period or configuration.
